Vice President Harris and Secretary Walsh, we are especially gratified to welcome you to Durham Tech during our year-long celebration of our 60th anniversary. In this anniversary year, we recall that we were founded on the promise of providing access to the education and training needed to succeed amidst changing economic times. U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh joined Vice President Kamala Harris visit to Durham Technical Community College on Wednesday and highlighted the work of the College and the plans of the Biden Administration to grow and diversify registered apprenticeships.
“Community colleges like Durham Tech are essential to this work. They are the engine of equity and higher education. And they are the key to growing our middle class like creating pathways from school to career for American students and American workers,” Walsh said.

The wise words of Dr. Phail Wynn, Jr. filled the DPAC auditorium during Durham Tech’s 2018 commencement ceremony.
“Each of you has vast amounts of untapped potential that has not been discovered or has not been developed simply because the circumstances of your life have never called them forth,” said Wynn, the third president of Durham Tech. “You have barely scratched the surface of your deep reservoir of hidden talent. Use your knowledge and skills wisely, to the benefit and betterment of your community and of society as a whole.”
His passion for higher education was a constant in his life.

Last month, Dr. Kara Battle, Chief Academic Officer at Durham Tech, presented Jayme Dyer, Kris Weberg, and Griselle Guzman with Faculty Challenge Coins in a virtual meeting. The coin recognizes faculty members who go above and beyond for their students and make a significant impact at the College.
RTP Bio is a biotechnology partnership collaborative between Durham Tech and Wake Tech.
Durham Technical Community College and Wake Technical Community College announced the launch of RTP Bio, a new workforce development collaboration that unites biotechnology, biomanufacturing, and biopharmaceutical talent pipelines of the two community colleges in the Research Triangle Park region.
Durham Tech and Wake Tech serve the fifth largest biotechnology hub in the United States, with Research Triangle Park located in both college’s service regions. The location and expansion of life science and biopharma industries have significantly accelerated employment demands. In 2020, more than 11,000 biotechnology jobs were created in the Research Triangle.
Current offerings at Wake Tech include degrees in Biopharmaceutical Technology and Biotechnology and continuing education through the BioWork credential. Durham Tech offers degrees in Clinical Trials Research, Biomedical Equipment Technology and continuing education through the BioWork credential. Durham Tech also plans to add new degrees in biotechnology-related programs in the coming year.
