Marcia Angle and Mark Trustin have donated a sizeable sum to the Durham Technical Community College Foundation, including $50,000 to support Durham Public School students enrolled in courses at Durham Tech. The $50,000 will purchase textbooks for students beginning in the 2023-2024 school year who are part of the recently announced DPS-Durham Tech Partnership.
In October 1981, the Small Business Institute opened its doors at Durham Technical Institute. It was established to provide entrepreneurs with the information, tools, and resources needed to develop business ideas and to become viable, profitable, and successful. In 1987, the now Small Business Center moved to the historic Venable Place Business Incubator in downtown Durham to start offering workshops, business-specific course work, and one-on-one counseling. In 2003, the Center moved to the sixth floor of the NC Mutual Life Insurance Company Building, and in 2018, the Center moved to its current location in the Chesterfield Building, also downtown.
Durham Tech’s Community Health Lab continues to grow in its mission to bring free health care services where care is needed most, thanks to the support of recent grants and generous individual donors.

Chef Betty Redwood-Brown, Durham Tech culinary arts instructor, is spearheading a new partnership between the College and the Orange Correctional Center in Hillsborough in which she is teaching inmates cooking skills.
“I’m excited to be the instructor,” she said. “It’s awesome!”

Students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate of arts degree in Middle Grades Education: Language Arts at a four-year college or university would complete the Associate in Arts (AA) degree.
Durham Public Schools, Durham Tech, and Bloomberg Philanthropies joined Duke leaders on Wednesday in celebrating the ribbon-cutting of the new Durham Early College of Health Sciences (DECHS).
