News: A passionate advocate for Continuing Education, Darlene Bullock has made her mark at two North Carolina community colleges
With over 37 years of experience in the industry, Darlene Bullock has been a pioneer in developing and growing Continuing Education courses at two North Carolina Community Colleges. Dean Bullock has been a leader at both Wake Technical Community College and Durham Technical Community College.

“The reason I went into education was to help people understand the importance of education and succeed in any way I could. I wanted to start at the bottom and work my way up,” said Bullock. “I wanted to understand what everybody’s roles were and the impact in those roles. That still helps me to this day.”

Throughout her career, it was important to her that she learned as much as possible from anyone and everyone and grew as much as she could. “I will always be a lifelong learner and absolutely love education,” said Bullock.

News: New Public Safety programs dean Justin Long loved serving in law enforcement and now he's training the next generation
Long before he was investigating crime scenes with his K9, Renzo, Justin Long was a young kid growing up on his family farm in Roxboro with herds of cattle, vegetable rows, and a bell that rang for dinner.

His family called it Bloomsdale – 120 acres of farmland where three generations lived. There were six houses on the farm, all built by Long family hands. His parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all grew up within walking distance of each other.

Days off didn’t exist. There was always something that needed to be done, and that instilled a strong work ethic in Long.

“It was a big thing in our family. You work. You support yourself, you support your family, and you do what you can to support your community,’” he said.

That work ethic has served the 36-year-old well as the new Dean of Human Services and Public Safety at Durham Technical Community College.
