University Transfer Options

The North Carolina Community College System and the University of North Carolina engineering programs developed a pathway for students to begin engineering studies at a community college and then transfer as seamlessly as possible to one of the UNC system engineering programs. This resulted in an Associate in Engineering to Bachelor of Science (AE to BSE AA) Articulation Agreement between the State Board of NC Community Colleges and The University of North Carolina Board of Governors.

Associate in Engineering (AE)

Students can use the Associate in Engineering program and complete the AE degree with at least a 2.5 GPA and earn a grade of C or better in all AE courses will have satisfied the General Education requirements and engineering entrance requirements at public UNC universities. Admission to Engineering programs is highly competitive and admission is not guaranteed.

AE curriculum courses focus on engineering, calculus, and calculus-based physics but the degree also includes general education offerings that emphasize the development of analytical skills, written and oral communication, and competencies in science.

Course Selection Guide

This course selection guide shown below has been developed by referencing the 2015 Associate of Engineering Uniform Articulation Agreement and the general education requirements for:

  • Eastern Carolina University (ECU)
  • NC Agricultural and Technical University (NC A&T)
  • NC State University (NCSU)
  • UNC Charlotte (UNCC)
  • Western Carolina University (WCU)

Students should print out and save the baccalaureate degree plan (BDP)(link is external) for their major and intended transfer university.
