Mary Marsha Cupitt, a former Durham Technical Community College instructor, received an Honorary Associate of Science degree at the College’s Commencement on May 24,2023, in recognition of her dedication and service to the College and its students.
Durham Tech’s Early Childhood Education program recently honored students participating in apprenticeships at a signing ceremony, where 16 apprenticeships were signed. Speakers included Durham Tech instructors as well as students of the program. The ceremony started with a quote about how the love of children is placed first in the program’s plan.
“There is certainly no greater love than what we show our children,” said Durham Tech Director of Work-based Education and Apprenticeship Dr. Micara Lewis-Sessoms, a former early childhood educator and “proud product of Head Start.”

Mohamed Karoui had been awake for 48 hours. After a full day of travel and an 18-hour robotics competition, Karoui found himself asleep on the floor of the Lesley University library in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The good news – his team won.

On Jan. 12, the Durham Tech Choir, under the direction of Dr. Norman Collins, brought the house down at Durham Tech’s 39th annual MLK celebration. The performances were so powerful, some audience members were in tears. With Collins conducting the faculty members comprising the choir delivered a memorable musical experience.
New Durham Tech applicants should attend a New Student Orientation. These sessions are encouraged for all first-time college students who will be attending Durham Tech.
Carlos Medina and siblings Marvin and Silvia Umana share a passion for bringing smiles to people.
Sharia Warren, who has worked at Duke Health for 12 years and is currently a clinical specialist senior there, will finish Durham Tech in May with an applied science degree in clinical research, thanks in part to the encouragement her two daughters have provided.
“They are my cheerleaders,” the single mother says of her 17- and 10-year-old girls. “When school gets too tough and thoughts of giving up creep into my mind, my oldest will remind me of how far I’ve come.”

The Honors Program provides the opportunity for students to do in-depth research and writing related to a particular subject. Successful participants receive an Honors designation on their transcript and diploma.
