The Durham Tech Northern Durham Center (NDC) offers curriculum courses such as Basic Law Enforcement Training, Criminal Justice Technology, Emergency Management, and Fire Protection Technology. Continuing Education courses include Biotechnology, Fire Service Extension, and Law Enforcement Extension.
The Optical Shop serves Durham Tech employees and current students with low-cost prescription and non-prescription eyewear.
In January 1980, Durham Technical Institute introduced an innovative way to reach more people in the community. The College launched telephone-tape services that provided free instruction and information to local residents.
Nathan Jenkins, 17, was awarded the Community Impact Student Award on November 25 by North Carolina Campus Compact, a statewide network of colleges and universities that is committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility.
Scholarships are a critical part of Durham Technical Community College’s overall strategy for student success. Many of the earliest gifts to the Durham Tech Foundation were designated for a general scholarship fund, with named scholarship funds following soon after. The first endowed scholarship at Durham Tech was established in 1988 by O’Brien Atkins Associates, PA for students enrolled in the Architectural Drafting program. Since then, 91 scholarships have been created — split evenly between endowed and annual awards.
