Prerequisites
To be eligible for enrollment in the Paramedic (Continuing Education) program, students must:
- Attend a mandatory information session prior to registering for course.
- Hold a current, valid NC EMT and/or NREMT-B certification
- Hold a current, valid AHA CPR Certification
- Take Anatomy & Physiology prior to registering for the course
- BIO 168 & 169 (only 168 must be completed before the start of class)
- BIO 163 + MAT 110
- EMS 3163A A&P for Paramedics
- Other previously taken Anatomy & Physiology will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
- Must show proof of college-level math and reading:
- Proof of post-secondary degree (AS, BS, BA, MS….) OR
- Submit proof of High School Diploma or GED – PLUS one of the following:
- NCDAP, ACT, SAT, HiSET, ACCUPLACER, COMPASS, or ASSET scores from the last 12 months that show proof of acceptable scores for Math and English
- College transcript showing successful completion of a college-level English (ENG 111) or higher and completion of a college level Math
- Demonstrate mastery on RISE English placement Tier 2 OR successfully complete ENG-002 through Tier 2 (grade of P2) AND RISE Math placement Tier 1
- Must be able to satisfy our Technical Standards

Policy on Advanced Placement, Transfer Credit, & Experiential Learning
Durham Tech’s EMS Educational Program does not accept Advanced Placement or Transfer credit for any of our core paramedic classes. Credit for EMS 110 may be given via experiential learning by applicants holding a current, valid, EMT-B certification.
How to Register
Students are required to attend an EMS Information Session (listed below) where they will learn more about the program and how to register as a Continuing Education and Curriculum certification student.
