News: Durham Tech celebrates 10th Electric Line Technician graduating class
More than 50 people gathered at the Durham Technical Community College Northern Durham Center Friday to celebrate the 10th Electric Line Technician graduating cohort.

The Electric Line program started in Spring 2019 out of a partnership with Duke Energy that funded students to participate in the program at no cost, and which covers registration, tuition, fees, and equipment.

The most recent cohort started class on March 28 and the program lasted for 10 weeks. Students learned to climb poles, install equipment, safety codes and applications, overhead and underground electric line construction practices and more. Students also received their CDL permit by taking an online Saturday class for five weeks prior to the Electric Line class beginning.

News: Durham Tech’s Paralegal Technology program receives transformational gift
Made possible by the bequest of the late Beulah T. Latta, the Paralegal Technology program has received a transformational gift that includes scholarships for students, a law simulation lab, and funding to upfit classroom space into a mock courtroom. This represents the single largest commitment the program has received in its history. The scholarships will enable the program to actively recruit new students and support current students. News: Durham Tech produces craft projects to service community needs
Since January, Durham Tech students and volunteers have been sewing, cutting, and tying plastic bags, fabric, and other materials to produce three different products for three different community needs.
These projects are running the gamut. Students are helping produce port pillows for chemotherapy patients and blankets for children at area hospitals and shelters and were part of creating sleeping mats for Durham’s homeless population.
The port pillows and blankets are still in progress. The sleeping mats have been completed and delivered.
Personal Preparedness
During the first few hours or days following a disaster, essential services may not be available and relief workers cannot reach everyone right away. These resources may be used in your efforts to become prepared.
