Durham Tech received the Community Impact Award in May 2019 during the fifth annual Business Excellence Awards (BEAs), presented by The Chamber For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro.
Durham Tech will embark on a strategic planning process with the help of three of the country’s best thought-leading institutions: Aspen Institute’s Center for College Excellence, Achieving the Dream, and the Belk Center at NC State.
Durham Tech graduate and health care advocate Luzita Francis will be the College’s 2024 spring Commencement keynote speaker.
Francis had been a single mom of three for eight years when she enrolled at Durham Tech. One of her children graduated from Durham Tech’s Middle College as valedictorian. Her two sons also attended Durham Tech. One earned an architectural certificate. Her other son graduated from Durham Tech at the same time as his mother, and both Francis and he transferred to UNC-Chapel Hill. The two graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill together, as well.

Central Sterile Processing Technicians serve surgeons by processing and assembling surgical instruments and supporting inventory in operating rooms. Upon completion of this course, students are able to apply the principles of sterilization and disinfection in the workplace as well as knowledge about distribution of instruments, supplies, and equipment.

Josh Mook’s journey at Durham Tech began thanks to his dad. Now his dad has a son with an associate degree in applied science from the biomedical equipment program and a job at Duke University Hospital.

Whitney Young came to Durham Tech in 2020 to serve as the coordinator for the Community Health Lab. She grew up overseas in Costa Rica where she learned to appreciate diverse cultures and developed her passion for helping others.
