Spring 2026 Crafternoons: Crafting with our Community
It's time for another semester of fun Crafternoon events! Held both on our Main Campus and our Orange County Campus, Crafternoons are opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to take a minute to make something with others from their Durham Tech community. This semester we're repeating a few favorites and adding a few new events. At the end of January, help to set your intentions or keep up with your life goals by making personal punch cards/BINGO cards. Want to visit some new outdoor
The OCC Library: New Books and Upcoming Crafternoons!
The first Crafternoons of the fall semester are next week and we've got opportunities to participate both on the Main and Orange County Campus! Join us Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM in the OCC Lobby or Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 1:00-3:00 PM downstairs in the Main Campus Library and decorate a 12-month agenda or notebook with a design of your choice, including creating your own vision board for the upcoming academic year! Crafternoons are co-sponsored by the Durham Tech Library and a
Stop, Look, and Listen during Poetry Month
It's still April, which means it's still Poetry Month. (Yay for that!) There's something powerful about hearing an author reading their own work, especially with poetry. Where do they stop and start? What words do they emphasize? It adds something extra (at least for that particular moment). If you like to listen, the Library of Congress has a comprehensive list of audio recordings of poets reading their own poems. They contain both external and internal audio resources, including the Library of
Where Have All My Librarians Gone? Librarian contact info and library services while everyone is off-campus
The librarians are still here for you, though we're working remotely and with our new [unpaid] coworkers. Note: These coworkers are not very good at accurate typing, so will not be manning the chat. Well, what can we do (and what is a no-go for off-campus work conditions)? What we can do for faculty, staff, and students: Help you to find your textbooks online (for free until May 25 in most cases), either using the bookstore's Red Shelf or other online resources. Help you do research and find
What We're Reading: Hillbilly Elegy
Title: Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis Author: J.D. Vance Genre: memoir Why did you choose to read this book? I am a member of a two-person book club and the other member suggested this book. What did you like about it? It was a quick read. J.D. Vance details his upbringing in the Rust Belt as the descendant of Appalachian migrants to Ohio. He details the culture and communities of Scots-Irish people in West Virginia and Middletown, Ohio. Vance grew up in a close-knit

Book Club Meeting September 26th
The Durham Tech Library Book Club is having its first meeting for Fall 2016! It will be held in the Schwartz Room right outside the Main Campus Library at 1pm. Check out our libguide for more information. We will be reading: At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled
New Books, New Partnership: Discover the Latest in Nursing at Durham Tech Library
The library is happy to share WRAL's new story regarding Durham Tech's new Academic Practice Partnership with Duke Health, which aims to "streamline the education and employment journey for students [who are earning a degree to become a registered nurse]." Leading nursing students to quality information and scholarly resources is one of our vital responsibilities as librarians and we are frequently adding new resources to keep up with the challenging pace of healthcare developments following the
Spotlight on the Dr. Phail Wynn Jr. Special Collection
Dr. Phail Wynn Jr, was president of Durham Technical Community College from 1980-2007. When Dr. Wynn made a generous donation to the library in 2007, the library created a special collection in his name. Dr. Wynn requested the collection pertain to socially responsible topics such as ecology and the environment, cultural awareness, global citizenship, teaching tolerance, appreciating diversity, fighting poverty, and promoting world peace. The library is very proud of this collection and we add
Getting Crafty this Spring: Upcoming Crafternoons!
Despite the weirdness of the first two weeks of the semester with weather and unexpected power/data outages, we've made it to week three. Congrats! Why not reward yourself with a little midweek Crafternoon once a month? This semester, we'll be learning a few new crafts and leveraging the talents, skills, and resources of our on-campus partners. As usual, all supplies will be provided for Durham Tech students, faculty, and staff. One new thing this semester: We love that we've had so many folks
