El Centro Hispano recognized Durham Technical Community College with the 2022 Gilbertson-Clark Visionary Award during a gala celebration on June 25.
El Centro Hispano is a non-profit organization that seeks to strengthen the Hispanic/Latino/Latinx community through education, economic development, community health, community support, and civic and community participation. Durham Tech has partnered with El Centro for more than 10 years.
“Durham Tech has had a long-standing partnership with El Centro and received the award for the College’s commitment and leadership in supporting and implementing the vocational classes for El Centro’s workers, and other initiatives related to the Community Health Workers, and Durham Tech’s Mobile Health Lab,” said Dr. Constanza Gomez- Joines, Executive Director of the Center for the Global Learner at Durham Tech.

DURHAM, NC – Dr. Angela Davis, Vice President, Chief Talent and Equity Officer at Durham Technical Community College was a recent participant of the 2022 Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, which was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania October 2-7, 2022.
The Lakin Institute, which is sponsored by the Presidents’ Round Table of African American CEOs of Community Colleges, is a national professional development program designed with the intent of preparing senior-level executives for roles as community college chief executive officers and presidents.
Davis, a Durham resident, is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive talent management strategy to leverage talent for institutional growth, while leading the development and implementation of proactive equity, inclusion, and diversity initiatives to support the college’s strategic plan.

The Honors Program provides the opportunity for students to do in-depth research and writing related to a particular subject. Successful participants receive an Honors designation on their transcript and diploma.
The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program announced Wednesday, April 5, that Durham Technical Community College Vice President and Chief Campus Operations Officer Dr. Susan Bowen is one of 35 leaders selected for the 2023-24 class of the Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship. This program, delivered in collaboration with the Stanford Educational Leadership Initiative, prepares the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success.
