Forty years ago, Durham Tech employees held a celebration to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. What started as a potluck between just a few people from the admissions office has grown into a large-scale celebration that reflects the College’s commitment to diversity and civil rights.

Dulce Hernandez worked 15-hour shifts, six days per week at Chipotle while also attending Durham Tech – all to support her two children.
“Sometimes I’d be up crying at 3 a.m., after I got home from work because I knew I wasn’t going to get any sleep,” said Hernandez, 26. “But it was all worth it in the end. Everything you put in, you will get back.”

The Durham Tech Small Business Center and Corporate Education department is now housed in the redeveloped Chesterfield Building in the 700 block of West Main Street.
