Nurse Aide II (Non-credit)

Short Term

Take your Nurse Aide care to the next level. The Nurse Aide II course prepares graduates to perform more complex and invasive patient care skills, as well as continue to provide basic nursing care for adults. Through classroom instruction, laboratory work, and clinical rotations, this class will lead to listing on the NC Board of Nursing NA II Registry.

Prerequisites

  • High School diploma or High School Equivalency certificate.
  • Current NC Nurse Aide I listing with no substantiated negative finding.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider card from the American Heart Association.

Students must provide proof of the following at the class orientation session:

  • Proof of immunity for MMR, Varicella, Tdap
  • Negative TB skin test within 6 months of the first day of class or a negative chest X-ray within the last 5 years (two-step TB for hospital-based course).
  • Hepatitis immunity through vaccination or by signing a declination form.
  • An influenza (flu) vaccine spring and fall semesters.
  • Personal health insurance (for the Hospital-Based course only)
  • COVID-19 vaccination

Failure to submit the above immunizations may prevent the student from progressing to the clinical portion of the course.

Financial Aid

  • Durham County residents or Durham Public Schools high school graduates can apply for ConnectFund grants that pay for course tuition. 
  • Continuing Education by Design (CEED+) Grant covers the tuition cost and materials, and up to $250 in bookstore credits for other costs such as textbooks, supplies, or technology.
  • Short-Term Workforce Development Grant includes up to $750 towards the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, childcare, and other components of the total cost of attendance for eligible courses.
  • NC CareGivers reimburses participants for training and testing upon successful completion. They will connect you with hundreds of employers who will provide a $500 bonus after 6 months of work with specific employers. 

Registration

Before students can register, they must submit the following documents for review:

  • High School diploma or High School Equivalency certificate.
  • Current NC Nurse Aide I listing with no substantiated negative finding.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider card from the American Heart Association.
  • Completed Durham Tech Registration formImportant: Include the 5-digit class section number (also called Course Number) on the registration form
  • If applicable, a letter of intent to pay from a 3rd party payer
  • Please include a note if you are applying for financial aid.

Save the documents separately. Do not put them all in one file. They should be saved as digital copies in one of the following formats: PDF, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, or PNG.   
 
To upload your documents:  

  • Go to the Durham Tech Documents portal
  • Log in if you already have a Durham Tech account or choose the Create a New Account. Note it may take up to 24 hours for your new account to be created. 
  • Scroll down to the Nurse Aide Program link and click on Submit Documents 
  • Fill in your name and email, select the type of document you are uploading, and upload your documents.  
  • Important: Include the 5-digit class section number (also called Course Number) on the registration form so we know which class you are registering for. Click on Submit. 
  • Email nurseaide@durhamtech.edu so we know to look for your documents 

After your documents are reviewed and approved you will receive an email on the next steps to take. You will also be emailed instructions on how to make your payment in a secure payment portal through Durham Tech.

NUR-3253A Nurse Aide II Refresher

The Nurse Aide II Refresher is designed to assess and validate NA II skills competencies for individuals whose NA II certification expired within the past 24 months. All of the Nurse Aide II skills identified on the Nurse Aide II task list will be reviewed and assessed. The student's return demonstration of the skills must meet NC BON guidelines for proficient performance without prompting or assistance from the instructor. There is no clinical. After successful completion of the course students will be eligible for reinstatement on the NA II registry. 100% attendance is required. Prerequisites for this course include ALL of the following: Current NA I Registry listing with no substantial findings, NA II Registry listing showing expiration date within the past 2 years, and letter on employer letterhead stating student is eligible to take NA II Refresher class. NUR-3241C Nurse Aide II

Take your Nurse Aide care to the next level. The Nurse Aide II course prepares graduates to perform more complex and invasive patient care skills. Through lecture, laboratory work, and clinical rotations this class will lead to listing on the NC Board of Nursing NA II Registry. Students should be task-oriented, self-motivated, and organized with excellent reading skills. Textbook, evidence of negative TB, AHA health care provider BLS, proof of specific immunizations, personal health insurance, and supplies are required. Students are required to undergo an official criminal background check and drug screening prior to beginning the clinical portion of the training. Certain findings may prevent the student from progressing to the clinical portion of the course. Prerequisites for this course include ALL of the following: HS diploma/equivalency, current NC NA I Registry listing with no substantiated negative findings, current BLS certification or planned course within 2 weeks of class start date.
