This certification-related course is designed to provide the law enforcement officer with a fundamental background in the instruction of other law enforcement personnel. Successful completion of this course allows the student to apply to the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Division for certification as a law enforcement instructor. This certification allows an instructor to teach many of the blocks of instruction offered in basic law enforcement training in addition to various in-service classes offered both in-house (police/sheriff's depts.) and the community college system. Each trainee is required to research, develop and deliver an 80-minute lesson plan as part of meeting course requirements. Trainees must successfully pass State- administered written exam as well as demonstrate competency in all skill areas in order to be eligible for certification as a criminal justice instructor. This certification-related course provides refresher training on unarmed self-defense techniques for correctional employees.

This certification-related Detention Officer Certification Course (DOCC) is offered under guidelines and requirements as set forth by North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission. Properly certified State instructors are used in all topic areas. Trainees must successfully pass State administered exam as well as demonstrate competency in all skill areas in order to be eligible for certification as a detention officer. This certification-related Telecommunicator Course is designed to meet the training guidelines mandated by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission. Trainees must successfully pass a state- administered exam as well as demonstrate competency in all skill areas in order to be eligible for certification. The purpose of this lesson plan is to increase the student's awareness of civil process matters they may encounter in the course of performing their duties.

This certification-related course is designed to provide training in topics mandated by a North Carolina accrediting commission or agency of state or federal government for continued certification as a criminal justice officer. Course topics must be consistent with the current law and the NC Administrative Code and may include such topics as annual in-service training for law enforcement officers, firearms training and qualification, legal update, hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, juvenile minority sensitivity and ethical awareness. The course teaches staff how bloodborne pathogens are spread, how to avoid exposure and what to do if exposed to infectious material. This course is one of the requirements of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. Bloodborne Pathogens courses are designed for those who are at risk for on the job exposure to blood and other bodily fluids in the workplace. The course teaches staff how bloodborne pathogens are spread, how to avoid exposure and what to do if exposed to infectious material.

This course is designed to instruct police officers on the proper way to maintain and utilize their duty weapons. Officers will have both classroom and live (daytime and nighttime) fire exercises during this training. This is an annually mandated training through the North Carolina Department of Justice.

This course teaches students how to incorporate and utilize Search And Rescue technology to search geographical locations. SARtopo is an internet based search and rescue mapping program that is used to effectively manage field units in a missing person emergency. Each student will need a laptop that is internet capable and the use of a mouse is incredibly beneficial. IPads and tablets are acceptable but not encouraged. Students will also be exposed to the use of SARtopo mobile app.

To provide the participant with the history, philosophy and basic skills necessary to serve as a School Resource Officer. Participants will receive instruction in school-based law, ways to handle exceptional students, and classroom instruction techniques.
