2022 marks the 15th year of the Dr. Phail Wynn Jr. Collection at Durham Tech Library's Main Campus. After retiring, Dr. Phail Wynn Jr., president of Durham Tech from 1980 to 2007, made a great investment in Durham Tech Libraries to create a new, special collection: The Dr. Phail Wynn Jr. Collection. The Dr. Phail Wynn Jr. Collection touches upon social responsibility and civic engagement, including topics such as ecology and environmental studies, fighting poverty, cultural awareness

Durham Tech and UNC-Chapel Hill celebrated a new partnership Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at the grand opening of the Innovate Carolina Junction. Durham Tech’s president J.B. Buxton announced that the College had opened an office at the Junction’s 136 E. Rosemary Street location in Chapel Hill, to provide space for the its small business and corporate services, along with academic programming.

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) care for patients in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, and group homes and may work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
As part of a relationship with UNC-Chapel Hill and its Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies, Durham Tech now offers a Ukrainian language course.
“Durham Tech is part of a Title VI grant [from the Department of Education] awarded to the UNC-CH's Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies. The grant runs for four years, and the sub-award to Durham Tech amounts to more than $50,000 that can be used for instructional costs, speakers/events, library materials and curriculum development,” said David Long, dean of creative and liberal arts at Durham Tech.

Durham Tech graduate Kilie Fetzer has been named the 2025 ApprenticeshipNC Outstanding Registered Apprentice after finding her passion while working as a receptionist at a surgeon’s office, where she learned about surgical tech careers.
“One of the amazing surgeons knew my frustrations of wanting to go back to school to further my education but having no idea what I wanted to do,” Fetzer said. “He offered to let me shadow him in the operating room to observe and see if anything sparked my interest. That’s when I learned what a surgical technologist is.”

Cambiando Caminos (Changing Paths) is a student-led, educational advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening the identity and presence of Latino students at Durham Tech.
