Historic investments by individual donors, Durham County, the City of Durham, local industry, and community partners have ushered in a new phase of growth for Durham Technical Community College. We look forward to the many opportunities that lie ahead.
Scholarships are a critical part of Durham Technical Community College’s overall strategy for student success. Many of the earliest gifts to the Durham Tech Foundation were designated for a general scholarship fund, with named scholarship funds following soon after. The first endowed scholarship at Durham Tech was established in 1988 by O’Brien Atkins Associates, PA for students enrolled in the Architectural Drafting program. Since then, 91 scholarships have been created — split evenly between endowed and annual awards.
Durham Tech student Rue Bertrand has been named the Governor Robert Scott Leadership nominee.
“It was a childhood goal of mine to comprehend the construction process and, as an architect, to construct things.” Durham Tech 2026 Academic Excellence Award winner Jeferson Gomez Gonzalez said. “But life was not so easy, so I took many turns on my way to Durham Tech and its Architectural Technology program.”
Edward Uh Mendez has been selected as the College’s nominee for the Dallas Herring Achievement Award and the recipient of the Tony Kleese and Christine Kelly-Kleese Resilience Award, which was recently increased to $2,000.

In 1993, Christine Kelly-Kleese walked onto Durham Tech’s campus to interview for her dream job of establishing a learning center at the College.
