News: Robyn Tomlin, Durham Tech alumna and journalist, to speak at commencement
Regional newspaper editor and former Durham Tech student Robyn Tomlin will be this year’s guest speaker for the College’s commencement ceremony in May.
Last February, Tomlin, an accomplished journalist, stepped into the new role of regional editor for the Carolinas. She currently serves as the top editor responsible for eight McClatchy-owned publications in North and South Carolina, including The Herald-Sun in Durham and The News & Observer in Raleigh.

News: Durham Tech, Kate’s Korner offer free six-month part-time childcare services beginning January 31
Durham Technical Community College and Kate’s Korner Education Services are partnering to provide free part-time childcare services and after-school care on the College’s main campus this spring. 

Drop-in services will be offered to 60 children beginning January 31 through June. The program focuses on access and affordability while delivering a high-quality project-based curriculum. 

The drop-in services will allow children to attend the morning or afternoon program five days a week. This allows students who attend Durham Tech the opportunity to complete class requirements and study without the worry of care for their children.
News: Ram Jack establishes new scholarship for skilled trades
Ram Jack Foundation Solutions, a Durham-based foundation repair and restoration business founded by Rick Sykes over 30 years ago, recently established a new scholarship at Durham Technical Community College for the skilled trades. The goal of this scholarship is simple but powerful: to remove financial barriers and create pathways into meaningful, stable careers in industries that keep our communities running.
News: NCCU, Durham Tech announce guaranteed admission partnership to benefit transfer students
Durham Technical Community College and N.C. Central University announced Tuesday, Nov. 28, details of their Eagle Connect guaranteed admission program to enhance their transfer partnership and provide more supports for student success. The new guaranteed admission partnership is designed to make transferring more seamless for students who earn their associate degree from Durham Tech, then transfer to N.C. Central to complete their bachelor’s degree.
News: Lawson Street bus stop to see update this month
Go Triangle and the City of Durham will replace the bus stops, concrete, and curbing on both sides of Lawson Street on Main Campus later this month. The project will start on June 14 and is slated to be finished June 2.
News: VP Dr. Susan Bowen selected for Aspen Institute’s Rising Presidents Fellowship
The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program announced Wednesday, April 5, that Durham Technical Community College Vice President and Chief Campus Operations Officer Dr. Susan Bowen is one of 35 leaders selected for the 2023-24 class of the Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship. This program, delivered in collaboration with the Stanford Educational Leadership Initiative, prepares the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success.  
News: Durham Tech Celebrates First Public Art Installation and Artist Guy Solie Who Created It
Durham Technical Community College celebrated longtime Durham resident Guy Solie and his recent donation of one of his works of public art to the College on Thursday, April 20. “The Dancers” is on the College’s Main Campus on Lawson Street and will remain on loan to the College indefinitely.
News: Leon Bradford becomes first Durham Tech student to receive distinguished Dallas Herring Achievement Award
Leon Bradford, a Durham Tech student, has been selected as the Dallas Herring Achievement Award recipient by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). This is the first time a student from Durham Tech has been selected for this statewide award.
News: Durham Tech partners with children’s nonprofit, Durham Public Schools to provide free eyeglasses to kids
Elyse Yooley remembers what it felt like to wear her first pair of glasses.
“It was like, ‘Whoa, there are actually leaves on those trees,’” she said.
This fall, Yooley will enter her second year of the Opticianry Associate Degree program at Durham Technical Community College.
As a second-year opticianry student, Yooley will join her classmates in participating in Project SIGHT. Project SIGHT is a partnership Durham Tech has with the East Durham Children’s Initiative, or EDCI, and Durham Public Schools to provide children of low-income backgrounds with free eyeglasses.
