Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) / SNAP

Also known as Food Stamps, FNS helps individuals and families purchase nutritious food.

Need help determining eligibility? Complete an assistance form and a Benefits Outreach Coordinator from the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC will call you to check eligibility and complete your application over the phone in just 10–15 minutes.

Orange County Food Resources
  • For Orange County Campus Students, visit our Hillsborough campus at 525 College Park Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
  • The Town of Chapel Hill is maintaining an up-to-date list of food distribution resources.
  • Inter-Faith Council’s Food Pantry provides food bags to residents of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and those who work in Orange County. Call 919-929-6380 to place a food bag order and arrange a pick-up time. Food bags will be brought to your car upon arrival.
  • The Inter-Faith Council continues to serve hot meals daily in a grab-and-go format (lunch daily, dinner Monday-Friday).
  • Orange Congregations in Mission provides food bags to residents of the Orange County school district (including residents without children). Open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for drop-in service. Call 919-732-6194, ext. 12.
  • TABLE delivers bags of non-perishables and fresh food to families with children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School System. If you have students in the CHCCS district and you are not already a TABLE recipient, sign up for their waiting list by calling 919-636-4860.
  • Orange County Seniors Supplemental Food Box program is a free monthly Commodity Supplemental Food Program food box distributed to qualifying residents, age 60 and over who meet income requirements. Contact the Aging Helpline at (919) 968-2087, email Shenae McPherson or call (919) 245-4243 for information to apply.
  • Food Not Bombs: Request food or supplies, and they will respond within 48 hours (about two days).
