Basic Detention Officer Course (Continuing Education)
Short Term
Course Overview: Our curriculum covers a range of critical subjects, including:
- Criminal Justice System
- Legal Aspects of Management and Supervision
- Physical Fitness
- Ethics
- Patrol and Security Functions of the Jail
- Mental Health Awareness
- Notetaking and Report Writing
- Stress Management
- Subject Control Techniques
- Communication Skills
- First Aid and CPR
To earn your certificate, students must successfully complete all units developed by the North Carolina Justice Academy and meet the standards set by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission.
Enrollment Requirements:
- Agency sponsorship is required for enrollment.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
- A high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) is necessary.
