Veterans Services
Durham Tech Veterans Services office provides support for students eligible for VA Education Benefits with benefit certification, documentation, and navigating college procedures. Eligible students include:
- U.S. Veterans
- Active-duty military personnel
- Members of the Selected Reserves
- National Guard members
Steps to Use Your Veteran Education Benefits
To receive VA Education Benefits at Durham Tech, students must (1) already be admitted to an approved Durham Tech curriculum program, (2) have official high school transcripts on file, and (3) submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges (transcript waivers are not permitted).
- 1. Apply for VA Benefits
Submit the Department of Veterans Affairs Education Benefits Application to receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
- 2. Submit Durham Tech Veterans Forms
Complete the following forms:
VA Certification Request Form Veterans Educational Benefits Enrollment Form
Submit documents via email:
- 3. Submit Military Documents
Provide the following documentation:
- Military transcript(s) from the Joint Services Transcript system
- A copy of your DD-214

- 4. Meet With Your Academic Advisor and Veterans Services
Students receiving VA Education Benefits must meet with their Academic Advisor the Veterans Services Coordinator to have their schedule approved.
- 5. Notify Your VA School Certifying Official (SCO)
Students are required to notify the VA School Certifying Official (SCO) via email when registration is complete.
- 6. Student Responsibilities
Students receiving VA Education Benefits must:
- Report changes in schedule, program, or attendance immediately to their VA School Certifying Official (SCO)
- Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

- 7. Explore Veterans Work-Study Opportunities (optional)
Students using VA Education Benefits and attending college at a 3/4-time rate or more may apply for part-time employment under VA work-study. Work-study pays minimum federal wage and is limited to positions available.
