Peer Support Specialist (Continuing Education)
Short Term
Peer Support Specialists are certified professionals with lived experience recovering from a mental health condition, substance use disorder, or traumatic brain injury. Drawing on their personal recovery, training, and commitment to helping others, they provide guidance and support throughout the recovery and healing process. They work in a wide range of settings, including Veterans Affairs offices, substance use treatment programs, inpatient mental health hospitals, emergency departments, correctional facilities, community agencies, homeless shelters, group homes, churches, YMCAs, vocational rehabilitation programs, peer support organizations, and support groups.
Notification for Certification or Re-Certification of Peer Support Specialist
This course may be used toward satisfaction of the additional 20 hours of Human Service training required for initial certification or recertification. It does not replace the required Foundations of Peer Support Part I (Online) or Part II (Instructor-Led) courses and does not lead to certification on its own. How to Apply
Students must meet the following prerequisite requirements:
- Should be at least 18 years old
- Proof of high school diploma or high school equivalency (unofficial transcript may be submitted)
