Associate in Arts

Long Term

The Associate in Arts (AA) degree prepares students to successfully transfer to four-year institutions and then enter a wide variety of careers including administration, counseling, law, research, and some healthcare fields. The degree consists of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of college transfer courses. The emphasis is on courses such as business, English, fine arts, foreign languages, history, philosophy, psychology, or sociology.

Courses in the Associate in Arts degree are approved for transfer to all UNC System universities through the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and most North Carolina independent colleges and universities through the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA). These agreements allow students to transfer all courses earned with a C or higher to the four-year university. Students who complete the degree with a C or higher in each class and a 2.0 or higher GPA transfer with junior status and are considered to have met all general education requirements at the transfer university.
