Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation

Long Term

The Associate in Arts Teacher Preparation (AATP) prepares students who plan to transfer to a four-year university, major in Education and move into public teaching either as an elementary or middle school teacher. The AATP is specifically for students interested in teaching in fields related to the Social Sciences and Humanities. The degree consists of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of college transfer courses. Students in this program develop a broad liberal arts foundation in writing, math, science, humanities, and social sciences. They also complete field-specific training through a set of foundational Education courses.

The Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation is approved for transfer to all UNC System universities that have an undergraduate education major and independent colleges and universities that are signatories to the NCICU Associate in Arts and Associate in Science for Teacher Preparation Uniform Articulation Agreement. Admission to the School of Education at participating universities requires admission to the university, qualifying standardized test scores, and a 2.7 or higher GPA.
