English for the Workplace
Durham Tech offers courses designed to refine English Language skills of non-native speakers of English while also developing soft skill sets and new ways of thinking. Students enhance job skills that are necessary to become successful members of the workforce.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
English as a Second Language (ESL) offers courses to non-native speakers at several locations in Durham and Orange counties.
Bio-Agriculture Program Readiness Opportunity (Continuing Education)
BioAg Pro instructs students about techniques, technologies, and equipment used in agriculture and plant sciences.
Customer Service Success (Continuing Education)
The Customer Service Success program focuses on the importance of customer relations in the business world. Emphasis is placed on learning how to respond to complex customer requirements and to efficiently handle stressful situations.
News: El Centro Hispano recognizes Durham Tech with 2022 community award
El Centro Hispano recognized Durham Technical Community College with the 2022 Gilbertson-Clark Visionary Award during a gala celebration on June 25.

El Centro Hispano is a non-profit organization that seeks to strengthen the Hispanic/Latino/Latinx community through education, economic development, community health, community support, and civic and community participation.  Durham Tech has partnered with El Centro for more than 10 years.

“Durham Tech has had a long-standing partnership with El Centro and received the award for the College’s commitment and leadership in supporting and implementing the vocational classes for El Centro’s workers, and other initiatives related to the Community Health Workers, and Durham Tech’s Mobile Health Lab,” said Dr. Constanza Gomez- Joines, Executive Director of the Center for the Global Learner at Durham Tech.
Chefs and Head Cooks
Chefs and head cooks have many names. Job titles may include executive chef, sous chef, and kitchen manager. They direct and may participate in the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of dishes.
News: 60 for 60: Visiting Artist Program increased exposure for artists at Durham Tech
During the 1970’s, the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges and North Carolina Arts Council formed a Visiting Artist Program that allowed more than 300 artists to complete one or two-year residencies at colleges throughout the state.

This gave artists the opportunity to share their talents with the community through lectures, demonstrations, concerts, exhibits, and special programs. Artists were limited to a max of four years in the Visiting Artist Program and could participate at different institutions. 

In 1976, the program came to then-Durham Technical Institute.

A bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Care can help certified paramedics advance their career as hospital administrators, EMS directors, educators, and consultants. Some students completing the bachelor’s degree in EMC go on to graduate or professional study to become physicians, physician assistants, professors, and researchers.
Community Spanish Interpreter - Public Service Certificate
The Community Spanish Interpreter curriculum prepares individuals to work as entry-level bilingual professionals who will provide communication access in interview and interactive settings. In addition, this curriculum provides educational training for working professionals who want to acquire Spanish language skills.
