AFA & Alumni Art Exhibition
Join us to for our first annual exhibition showcasing the artwork of Durham Tech alumni and Associate in Fine Arts program graduates. The exhibition will showcase the work of thirteen artists, including paintings, digital prints, photography, video, mixed media, and sculpture. Some artists will have their work for sale.
- Art Exhibition: September 21 – November 13, 2026 in the D. Thomas Jaynes Art Gallery
- Opening Reception and Awards Announcements: October 14, 2026, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., in the D. Thomas Jaynes Art Gallery
- Guest Jurors will award cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners
- Light refreshments will be served
Launched in 2016, the Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) program prepares students who plan to transfer and major in studio art at a four-year university. AFA students explore various media through a variety of studio art courses, including drawing, painting, digital art, and sculpture.
Meet the Guest Jurors
- Jonh Blanco
Jonh Blanco is the Creative Director at Artspace, where they lead the organization's curatorial vision for exhibitions, residencies, and artist-centered programs.
A Filipinx-American artist, curator, and cultural leader, Jonh's undisciplined practice engages community, accessibility, care, and collective imagination through performance art, education, and social practice.
Prior to joining Artspace, Jonh served as Museum Manager at 21c Museum Hotel Durham. Their work is grounded in the belief that artists and cultural organizations can create meaningful spaces for belonging, dialogue, and positive community change.
Jonh earned a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
- Alexandra Jane
Alexandra Jane is the Artist Programs Manager for Artspace. She oversees artist residencies, professional development initiatives, and the studio artist community.
Grounded in community and cultural dialogue, Jane is a curator, writer, and cultural arts strategist who creates ethical opportunities for women, queer, Black, and artists of color.
Her experience includes gallery administration for Latin American Contemporary Art (LACA) in Charlotte, NC, and curating exhibitions such as MÔR: A Collective Exhibition of Black Lesbian Thought (2022) and And Sew It Seams (2024).She has written for Essence, EBONY, and 21Ninety, and participated in art writing programs with Sotheby’s Institute and the BlackEmbodiments Studio.
Jane earned a BA in Journalism and Mass Communications from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
